When I was 20, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroid disease. Having a chronic health condition means having frequent visits to the doctor, blood work, medication, ultrasounds, etc. I was fortunate that my parents helped me get and maintain insurance until I was eligible for my graduate assistant plan at MSU. It wasn’t until I no longer had access to that insurance that I realized just how incredibly broken the system is. Over the last 10-15 years, I have really struggled with my identity and with imposter syndrome. This is still something I struggle with, but I also think this is the case for most millennials because we have been forced to spend our lives adapting to nonstop global crises along with having to constantly learn new technology changing at a breakneck pace. We went from playing outside, to learning how to use computers, to using the internet, to cell phones, and then social media happened. Lately, I’ve been feeling the urge to explore my creative side more. We just passed six months in Korea, and I have felt the urge to try new things. I originally thought, “oh I’ll just resurrect my old blog and write a bit.” Turns out, my website was no longer hosted and it was directing to some weird Russian website. So, first things first. Wipe it and start again because there was no saving that mess.
